Tigers vs. Orioles at Joker Marchant Stadium

Feeling more like Florida here in sunny Lakeland as the Tigers take the field to battle the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles are making their first visit to Lakeland since moving their Spring Training home from Fort Lauderdale to Sarasota.

Offense the Early Theme for the Tigers

A quick scan of the leaderboard shows the Tigers leading all American League clubs in hitting during early spring action. The Tigers are batting .365 (42×115) with eight doubles, a triple, three home runs and 27 RBI in the first three games. The Tigers also lead all league clubs with 22 walks and a .475 on-base percentage.

Meeting of the Minds

One of the unique aspects of Spring Training is the opportunity to see people from around the game of baseball and professional sports as they visit each camp. TigerTown witnessed a meeting of the minds with a lunch table that included Tigers President, CEO and General Manager David Dombrowski, Tigers and Detroit Red Wings Senior Vice President Jim Devellano, Baltimore Orioles President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail, Former Green Bay Packers General Manager Ron Wolf and Former Minnesota Twins General Manager Terry Ryan. Needless to say, there was a lot of success and sports knowledge in Lakeland today!

Individual Tickets on Sale Today!

Bryce Gammon of Roseville, MI was the first Tigers fan in line to purchase tickets this morning at Comerica Park. Among the tickets he wanted, Bryce bought tickets to Opening Day and for a game against the Yankees on his birthday. The Tiger Den is his favorite location. “This has been a good start to the year for me especially getting the first spot to buy tickets to see my Tigers,” Gammon said.

Tigers vs. Astros at Joker Marchant Stadium

It’s been a busy day in Lakeland, with a ‘B’ game against the Astros earlier today on Kaline Field and the regular game this afternoon against the Astros. It’s another nice crowd at Joker Marchant Stadium today, trying to stay warm in the unseasonably cool weather.

Tigers Lose 4-1 to Astros in ‘B’ game on Kaline Field

The Astros defeated the Tigers 4-1 in a ‘B’ game on Kaline Field earlier today. Jacob Turner started for the Tigers and tossed two scoreless innings, while Andrew Oliver, Alfredo Figaro and Josh Rainwater all pitched for the Tigers. Casper Wells plated the lone Tigers run with a double in the second inning. The game ended after seven innings as the regularly scheduled game was fast approaching.

Karsch and Anderson Broadcast Live from Lakeland

The Karsch and Anderson show on WXYT broadcast live from the concourse at Joker Marchant Stadium today. They were dressed in hooded sweatshirts rather than the short sleeves they may have hoped for, but still enjoyed a break from the Michigan winter.

Cool temperatures persist here in Dunedin as the Tigers kick off the official Grapefruit League schedule against the Toronto Blue Jays. The temperature at game time was a brisk 48 degrees with a steady 21 MPH wind blowing out to center field. Certainly not typical Spring Training weather!
