Fiesta Tigres Weekend at Comerica Park
On August 3-4 the Detroit Tigers celebrated Fiesta Tigres to honor and recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino players to the game of baseball. The weekend included a FUNdamentals clinic for over 100 children at Clark Park in Detroit, a luncheon honoring former Tiger, Carlos Guillen and an in-park celebration prior to Saturday night’s game.
On Friday morning, Tigers infielder Ramon Santiago along with bullpen coach, Mike Rojas and infield coach Rafael Belliard hosted a baseball skills clinic for nearly one hundred children at Clark Park in Detroit. The children learned the FUNdamentals of baseball and took pictures with the Tigers infielder and Detroit’s favorite mascot PAWS.
Immediately following the clinic, Carlos Guillen was honored at a special luncheon at the Tiger Club. The event featured a Q&A with Carlos, festive music and a video montage highlighting all of Carlos’ accomplishments with the Tigers.
On Saturday, the Detroit Tigers celebrated Fiesta Tigres throughout Comerica Park. Music filled the concourse as five different performing groups danced, sang and played their instruments for the crowds at Comerica Park. It all concluded with a special on-field ceremony where the Tigers honored their current Hispanic and Latino players with a video montage, and Carlos Guillen was inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame.
