10 Things You May Have Missed at Comerica Park
The #Tigers finished up a six-game homestand with a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies over the weekend. Here are 10 things you may have missed happening at Comerica Park this week…
1. Christmas in July
The #Tigers celebrated Christmas in July on Tuesday. While the team was gearing up to take on the Chicago White Sox, fans were greeted with stockings, decorations and Santa!
2. Jack White’s First Pitch
As part of the Christmas in July festivities, Detroit-native Jack White threw out the first pitch to Santa.
3. A Pair of V-Mart 3-run home runs
Victor Martinez hit three-run home runs in back-to-back games this weekend. It’s the fourth time this season he has hit a home run in consecutive games, and the first since doing so on June 20th and 21st against Cleveland.
4. Kids Club Meet and Greet
5. Lauryn Williams First Pitch
Lauryn Williams threw out the first pitch on Wednesday. Williams was the first American woman to win Olympic medals in both the Summer (track) and Winter (bobsled) Olympic games.
6. Hunter and Braden
Hunter and Braden threw out a very special first pitch on Sunday’s game against the Rockies. 14-year old Hunter carried 7-year old Braden on his back for 40 miles earlier this summer to raise awareness for cerebral palsy, a disorder Braden was born with.
7. Pudge Rodriguez First Pitch
Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez was in Detroit over the weekend to help celebrate Fiesta Tigres! As part of the ceremony, he threw out the “first pitch” on Saturday.
8. Fiesta Tigres
The 9th Annual Fiesta Tigres kicked off on Friday afternoon with a luncheon at Comerica Park that featured a Q&A session with Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez. Friday’s festivities also included the annual “Dia en el Parque” event that invited children from the Clark Park Coalition to the ballpark. These kids had the chance to take a tour of the ballpark and meet J.D. Maratinez. Saturday’s celebration included a special Tigres jersey and a ceremony honoring Pudge Rodriguez.
9. Robot First Pitch
The Tigers have seen Robocop, Jack White and even a Samurai throw out the first pitch this year, so why not add an actual robot to the list? This robot was designed by Michigan high school students and is able to shoot a ball at over 100 miles per hour, but the students took it easy on PAWS Wednesday evening.
10. Tigers score in every inning
The Tigers scored in all eight innings of a nine-inning home game for the first time since 1912 in their 11-5 win over the Rockies on Saturday night.
