#TigersWives: Giving Back to the Community

By Kristina Avila

This year when the #TigersWives set out to make a bigger difference with our volunteer efforts we sure meant it! Although in the past years we have done many things around our community, we just thought that this year we could do more. Now that the season is more than half way over, we are looking back on what we have done so far and we are proud to say that we have been meeting our goal in giving back to the wonderful city of Detroit.

Last month we held our first Mystery Grab Bag Sale. It was the first time that we organized a fundraiser together entirely by ourselves. We collected all the balls and pictures as well as made sure all the players signed them and then packaged them to be sold. We raised more than $16,000 that went directly to the Tigers Wives Fund and the Detroit Tigers Foundation. It was great to see all the smiling faces when fans would get autographs from their favorite Tigers players old and new. And it was so rewarding to see fans just donate because they knew that the money would be going to a great cause.

The first event that we hosted from the funds raised so far was held last week at The Children’s Center in Detroit. The Children’s Center is an amazing organization that helps children and families coming from a difficult home environment. It is a place where children can feel safe and have fun no matter what challenges they face in their home life. We held a Game Night for the children and families of the center and provided a fun night where they enjoyed playing games and then continued the excitement by attending the Tigers game later that evening.

The event at The Children’s Center was so impactful and we are excited to continue our relationship with them. Stay tuned to see what we have in store the rest of the season.
